Dr Randal McAlister – Specialist Orthodontist
Randal McAlister provides all forms of Orthodontic treatment including fixed braces and Specialist Invisalign® treatment. He has been awarded Invisalign platinum provider status by Invisalign due to his experience.
He initially qualified as a Radiographer in 1983 where he obtained a Diploma in Diagnostic Radiography, which was obtained from the Royal College of Radiographers (London). Following this Randal went to Sydney where he worked at the United Dental Hospital and then back to Otago University where he graduated as a Dentist in 1988. This was followed by five years in general practice in Hamilton and Auckland where he completed a Fellowship with the Royal Australian College of Dental Surgeons (FRACDS). He completed his Masters Degree (MDS Orthodontics) at the University of Otago in 1996.
Randal commenced in specialist orthodontic practice in Howick in 1997 and has been there ever since, in the group practice of Hey Bunyan and McAlister.
Dr McAlister has become increasingly passionate about providing treatment using Invisalign® clear aligners to treat all forms of malocclusion (incorrect bite) and is excited about recent progress in this emerging area. He has been providing treatment with Invisalign® for several years and regularly attends Invisalign conferences and courses both here and overseas, most of which are advanced courses for Orthodontists only. Dr McAlister is also involved in on-going Invisalign educational programs exclusively for Orthodontists.
Randal is also an active member of the NZAO (New Zealand Association of Orthodontists), the NZDA (New Zealand Dental Association) and World Federation of Orthodontists. Dr McAlister enjoys listening to music, reading, practicing Yoga and sailing during his spare time. He also has a son and daughter.
What is the Invisalign® System?
Invisalign® clear aligners are a virtually invisible way to straighten your teeth using clear aligners. The process involves using an advanced 3D scanner to take an image of your teeth (no need for an impression). The advanced 3D computer image is then used to plan your individual treatment, from the initial treatment position of your teeth, to the final desired position.
Dr McAlister plans his patients for Invisalign® treatment using the same orthodontic diagnosis that he would if he was placing fixed braces adding the steps required specifically for Invisalign™ treatment.
The result is, a set of clear aligners are custom-made for you, your teeth, and your teeth alone. Each clear aligner is worn for up to two weeks, before being replaced by the next in the series, until the final position of your teeth is achieved.
